Comparative Studies of Anatomical facial proportion in Korean beauties

Abstract
To get some solution of the awkward problem "Who can be called a beautiful lady", the authors had performed the facial measurement of the traditional Korean beautiful lady in paintings during the period of the early modern art in Korea-when the western culture had hardly influenced-and the modern Korean beauty in pictures, who have participated in the beauty contest. Simultaneously the authors calculated the ratios between the measurement items.
The result showed that there is no notable differences between the traditional beauties and the beauty contest participants except few respects.
In the traditional the emphasis was laid on the upper face, which is the typical characteristic in childhood, and the lower facial part was of a small size. In other words the forehead was rather bigger than the jaw, the eyes has narrow width and the mouth was of a tiny size. All of these features, showed the expression of the quiet, the shi, and noble. However, in the modern the emphasis was laid on the maturity in the balanced face with the upper, middle, lower part, the dynamic eyes of a big size and the rather bigger mouth.
In other words the standard of modern beauty was not so substantially changed traditional.
